As a new homeowner as of this past February 18th, I was trying to decide whether or not I should get a home security system. Many vendors are offering free installation but, of course, their service comes with an attached monthly fee. I recently came across an iPhone app called iCam that provides a decent home surveillance solution for only $5. As long as you have a computer at your home running the free iCamSource app, you can use up to four webcams with it. The really cool feature is the push notifications you can choose to have it send to your phone if it detects any motion, allowing you to immediately view the camera that the motion was detected on. You also have the ability to have it record snapshot images if it detects motion as well. All of this and the iPhone app only costs $5 – no monthly recurring fees.
